How Walmart Marketplace fees work

Walmart Marketplace charges a single referral fee, a percentage of what the customer pays, set by your product's category. There's no monthly subscription and no per-order listing fee, which makes Walmart's fee structure simpler than Amazon's. The referral fee applies to the full amount the customer pays, including any shipping fee you charge on top of the item price, so "how much you charge" for the item and "what the customer pays" in total can differ if you charge shipping separately.

Sales tax collected at checkout is generally handled by Walmart as a marketplace facilitator in most states, so it passes straight through to the state and typically isn't a real cost or revenue line for you, it's included here only for a complete picture of the transaction.

The formula

Referral Fee = what the customer pays × referral rate
Total Cost = item cost + shipping cost + Referral Fee
Gross Profit = what the customer pays − item cost − shipping cost − Referral Fee
Profit Margin = Gross Profit ÷ what the customer pays × 100

Worked example

You charge $60 for an item and the customer pays $60 total (shipping included in price). At a 15% referral fee, Walmart's cut is 60 × 0.15 = $9.00. If the item cost you $22 and shipping cost $6, your Total Cost is 22 + 6 + 9 = $37.00, and your Gross Profit is 60 − 37 = $23.00, a 38.3% profit margin.
