Regular vs overtime pay this week
How much of your paycheck comes from overtime.
Overtime pay is the premium wage you earn for hours worked beyond the standard workweek. Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees earn at least time and a half, 1.5× their regular rate, for hours over 40 in a week. Some states and contracts add double time (2×) for holidays or long days.
At $20/hour, 40 regular hours pay $800. Eight overtime hours at 1.5× = $20 × 1.5 × 8 = $240. Weekly gross is $1,040, and the overtime rate is $30/hour. Annualized at 52 weeks that's about $54,080.
Hourly rate × 1.5 × hours over 40 in a week.
1.5 times your regular hourly rate for overtime hours.
After 40 hours in a week federally; some states use a daily threshold.
Twice your regular rate, required only by some states or contracts.
No, it's taxed at the same rates as regular pay.
