How Etsy fees work
Every Etsy sale carries several small fees that add up. There's a $0.20 listing fee per item listed, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and payment processing of about 3% + $0.25 in the US. If your sale came through an Etsy-placed Offsite Ad, add a 15% advertising fee (12% for shops that made over $10,000 in the past year).
Because the transaction and processing fees both apply to shipping, pricing shipping too low quietly eats your margin. This tool totals every fee so you can price with confidence.
The formula
transaction fee = (item + shipping) × 6.5%
processing fee = (item + shipping) × 3% + $0.25

Worked example
A $40 item with $6 shipping (no offsite ad): transaction fee = 46 × 0.065 = $2.99; processing = 46 × 0.03 + 0.25 = $1.63; listing = $0.20; total fees = $4.82. If the item cost $12 and shipping cost $5, profit = 46 − 12 − 5 − 4.82 = $24.18.
