Payment split
How the buyer's payment divides between PayPal's fee and what lands in your account.
When you receive a goods and services payment in the UK, PayPal takes a percentage of the amount plus a fixed per-transaction fee. The standard domestic rate is around 2.9% + £0.30. Micropayments (about 5% + £0.05) can be cheaper for very small sales, while international payments add a cross-border fee, so the percentage is higher.
Sending money to friends and family inside the UK from your balance or bank is normally free; fees apply to card-funded transfers and any commercial payment.
A £100 goods & services payment at 2.9% + £0.30: fee = 100 × 0.029 + 0.30 = £3.20, so you receive £96.80. To net £100, charge (100 + 0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.029) = £103.30.
| Payment type | Percentage | Fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (goods & services) | 2.9% | £0.30 |
| Micropayments | 5.0% | £0.05 |
| International (cross-border) | 4.99% | £0.30 |
| Friends & family (balance/bank, UK) | 0% | £0.00 |
Rates are typical UK figures for planning; your exact rate depends on your account type and PayPal's current schedule.
Domestic goods & services payments are about 2.9% + £0.30 each; micropayments and international rates differ.
Multiply the payment by the percentage, add the fixed fee, and subtract from the payment.
Within the UK, yes, when funded by balance or bank; card-funded or commercial payments carry fees.
Use the "amount to charge" mode, which divides your target plus the fixed fee by one minus the percentage.
PayPal generally returns the percentage fee on refunds but may keep the fixed fee; check current policy.
