Your proportions
Bust, waist, and hip measurements side by side.
Body shape is classified by comparing three measurements: bust (or chest), waist, and hips. The relationships between them place you into one of the common shapes. It is a descriptive tool for styling and tracking proportions, not a health measure.
| Shape | Pattern |
|---|---|
| Hourglass | Bust ≈ hips, well-defined waist |
| Pear / Triangle | Hips wider than bust |
| Inverted triangle | Bust wider than hips |
| Rectangle | Bust, waist, hips similar |
| Apple / Round | Waist the widest measurement |
Shape itself is cosmetic, but where you carry fat can matter. A larger waist relative to hips is linked with higher metabolic risk, which is why waist-to-hip ratio is also shown.
Your underlying frame is largely fixed, but fat loss or muscle gain can shift your measurements and move you between shapes over time.
