How salvage auction fees work in Australia

Copart is a US-based salvage-vehicle auction that operates in the US, Canada, UK and several other markets, but not through public auctions in Australia. Australian buyers of written-off, salvage and wholesale vehicles typically use auction houses such as Pickles, Manheim or Grays. The fee shape is similar wherever you buy: on top of the hammer price you pay a tiered buyer fee that rises with the sale price, an admin or gate fee, and 10% GST, plus any storage if you collect late.

This calculator estimates those comparable buyer costs in Australian dollars so you can budget a total before you bid. Every figure is editable, so you can match the exact schedule of whichever auction house you use.

The formula

fees = buyer fee + admin fee + storage + other
GST = (hammer price + fees) × 10%
total = hammer price + fees + GST

Worked example

On a very low lot (A$0 bid) as a public buyer: buyer fee A$25 + admin fee A$90 = A$115 in fees, GST at 10% adds A$11.50, so total ≈ A$126.50. Add an A$500 bid and the buyer fee rises per the tier table, with storage on top if you collect late.
